Reuben & Alice Chesire Foundation

The Reuben and Alice Chesire Foundation was founded to continue the community work of Hon Reuben Chesire.

Reuben Chesire was born in 1941 and passed away in 2008.

Reuben Chesire played an important role in the development of Kenya’s Agriculture sector and to this end he served as Chairman of the Kenya Farmers Association and Kenya Dairy Board as well as chairing many other public and private boards.

During his life Reuben went to great lengths to develop the livelihoods of Kenyans but with a particular focus on the immediate environment of the community around Makongi. One of these initiatives was his donation of 50 acres of land from Makongi Farm towards the establishment of a primary and secondary school – Makongi High School and Emdin Primary School.

The Chesire family, being led by his wife Alice continues this work of supporting the community through education and is looking to develop the school into a center of excellence for under priviledged children. The vision is to develop on the grounds a college that would focus on dairy training that would equip school leavers with the appropriate skills to manage dairy enterprises.
